10-520 PRIMER
For Rusty Surfaces
DESCRIPTION:
10-520 offers rust inhibitive adhesion that is unique for an alkyd type primer when top-coated with SHOWER-PROOF "WB" or CALBAR METAL SIDING PAINT.
OUTSTANDING FEATURES:
- Quick dry, re-coat in two hours.
- V. O. C. Compliant.
- Unusually good adhesion, even on hard to coat substrates.
- Hard, tough, and flexible corrosion resistant finish.
- Available in rust inhibitive red oxide.
SPECIFICATIONS: Coating Type Solvent based air dry V.O.C. 150 grams/liter Pot life Single component Shelf life 24 months Required thickness 3 wet mil per coat Coverage 400 square feet per gallon Packaging 1 gallon, 5 gallon, 55 gallon Color Red oxide
APPLICATION:
Surface to be coated must be clean and free of water, oil, rust, dust, dirt, mildew, soldering fluxes, tree sap, or any foreign matter that can potentially interfere with adhesion. Cleaning is necessary. We recommend a detergent wash and rinse as described below.
Power-wash with Tri Sodium Phosphate (TSP) to remove "chalk", dirt, rust, and loose paint. Rinse thoroughly and let dry completely. Alternately, hand scrape peeling sections with a wood or plastic scraper (the sharp end of a cedar shake works well). Clean rust areas with a stiff bristle brush. Pour a heavy-duty solution of TSP in warm water on roof and scrub with a stiff bristled brush or floor broom. Rinse thoroughly and let dry completely.
Spot prime rusted areas. Coat the entire roof with Calbar 10-520 rust inhibitive primer.
MAINTENANCE:
Damaged areas may be repaired using Calbar Roof Sealer (CRS). Please refer to the appropriate data sheet for this product.

LIMITATIONS:
Areas with rust must be spot primed. A test patch should be applied to any roof that has been coated with a factory finish. We strongly recommend that proper adhesion to your factory finish be tested using the Adhesion Tape Test as defined by ASTM D-3359. A copy of this procedure is available on our web site. If you are unsure whether or not your roof has a PVFD (Kynar 70) finish, you may test it using the method that is defined on our web site.
PRECAUTIONS:
Apply only at temperatures from 40F to 90F (air and surface). Do not paint if rain is forecast within the tack-free time. Starting after 10 am and stopping by 4 pm gives best results. Condensation on wet paint film will flatten the finish of the coating prematurely and unevenly, but does not affect adhesion or durability. Never paint over condensation. Painting at temperatures above 90F will cause all coatings to dry too quickly, resulting in poor adhesion and flexibility. Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet for complete health and environmental information.
